On Friday, August 28, J&K Communications celebrated a milestone that means a great deal to our company and our family: 50 years in business.
Customers, employees, partners, vendors, friends and family came together at our Columbia City location to celebrate five decades of J&K. More than anything, the day was a reminder of just how many people and generations have played a part in making J&K what it is today.
50 Years of J&K Communications
J&K Communications was founded in 1976 as a small, family-owned communications business in Columbia City, Indiana. What started locally has grown considerably over the last five decades, but J&K has remained a family-owned company with deep roots in the community where it began.
Today, J&K operates locations in Columbia City, Fort Wayne, Kokomo and Indianapolis, serving businesses, public safety agencies, schools, government organizations and other customers with communication systems and services.
The technology we work with looks much different than it did in 1976. Over the years, J&K has grown alongside the communications industry, expanding into two-way radio systems, public safety communications, industrial communications, dispatch technology, telemetry and other solutions.
But while the technology has changed, the foundation of the company has remained remarkably consistent: strong relationships, dependable service and people who care about the work they do.
Multiple Generations, One J&K
Of everything we had the opportunity to celebrate during our 50th anniversary, one of the most meaningful was seeing multiple generations of J&K together in one place.
For a family-owned company, 50 years represents much more than the amount of time a business has been open. It represents generations of people who have invested their time, energy and careers into building something that could continue long after them.
Seeing different generations of the J&K family alongside longtime employees, current team members and the people who have supported the company over the years showed exactly why this milestone was so special.
Fifty years is a company milestone, but it is also a family milestone. Seeing multiple generations together during our celebration was a reminder that the story of J&K has always been about the people behind it.
A Celebration Made Special by the People Around Us
Our anniversary celebration gave us the opportunity to bring together many of the people who have been part of J&K’s story.
Some of the relationships represented that day have existed for decades. Others are much newer. Each has played a role in helping J&K reach 50 years.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to celebrate with us and make the day what it was.

Reaching 50 years gives us plenty to look back on, from where J&K started in 1976 to the company it has become today. More importantly, it gives us an opportunity to recognize the people who made that growth possible.
